Since there's no direct crossing, Ohio has never had the kind of ties to Ontario that Michigan has.

I live right on the border in Niagara Falls. The ties the people here have to anywhere in the USA are very minimal.

Strange. It's the complete opposite here in Windsor. The ties that bond Windsor and Detroit go well beyond the auto industry.
