Anybody else heard about this? Quebec mogul and new virtual PQ leader Pierre Karl Peladeau is already talking about his plans to launch a new referendum for 2018 at the earliest. Just when you think there might be an end in sight..?

Couillard has been a complete disaster. I wouldnt be surprised to see his bungling push people into Peladeau's camp. We will have to wait and see how this plays out for Canadian unity.

Is it legal for the federal parliament to pass a law like they did in the UK where if the people voted no in the referendum, there can't be another one until a whole new generation comes of age? I think in the UK they defined it as until everyone who was of voting age at the time of the referendum passes on, no new referendum is allowed? This is really ridiculous. They're going to vote no again anyway. That's just political theater for the PQ to generate free publicity IMO

I don't know, but if the federal government tried to do that support for the PQ would surge. Basically the only way to keep seperatism out of the majority is by letting Quebec do whatever they want.

Canada has been a very unstable country since the 1960's and it defies all logic considering we are relatively well off, neighbour the US (a very stable country) and are far away from any wars. Appeasement has been the only way to keep Canada from crashing down. At least it's the only method seems to have worked thus far.

The Clarity Act from what I can see doesn't seem very "clear" about what constitutes a Majority even if a Province does get 50 plus 1 in a referendum for separation. From there things don't get any 'clearer' either..

Clarity Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It seems like by design Canada does not make it easy for any Province to separate. It looks to be an uphill battle even in the best separatist climate.

If you want to guarantee Quebec voting for independence then by all means vote to pass such a law.

Canada isn't the only first world country whereby its not just a simply matter of a vote in a referendum 'binding' or not.

Anyway - its not a simple matter

I'll be amazed if Pierre Karl Peladeau doesnt become the new leader of the separatists, he's got everything going for him, A staunch separatist,a multi billionaire, owns Quebecs main media outlets and charismatic to boot, maybe he can accomplish what others have failed to do.

It's not really big news. I believe that Article 1 of the party constitution of the PQ says that upon the election of a majority PQ government, they will put the wheels in motion for a referendum. It's the party's main raison d'être. Every PQ leader will pledge to do this, with more or less emphasis depending on the temperature of the waters.
