The only problem is that even if ISIS or ISIL, or whatever the nom-de-jour is these days, is extinguished, there will be a new entity to take it's place. And if not, certain agencies (and I mean Western ones) will make sure one is created.

That's what people don't get. It's a game of whack-a-mole, and despite what you've been sold, the only reason you and other soldiers are over there is to protect corporate and government interests. End of. Not to protect the people or deliver "freedom" or teach them how to grow pretty flowers and dance in the sunshine. It's about oil, resources, and other geopolitical advantages.

It's not our "freedoms" that offend these groups and motivate them, it's our constant corporate and governmental meddling in their countries and cultures. I'm all for educating, enabling, and inspiring the people there to take control of their destinies and push back against oppression. But that's just the smokescreen; our governments care less about them than they care about us, which is pretty much not at all.

It would be great if the troubled countries in the Middle East were able to join the rest of us in the 21st century. But they remain firmly entrenched in religious culture and theocratic rule. Until THAT changes, there will be zero progress. This "war" is about as winnable and as useless as cops busting a low-level street dealer in the name of the "War Against Drugs (tm)". Go ahead, bomb them into oblivion. Nothing is going to change.

very well said. Reserve a rep (unfortunately I need to spread more around).
Conclusion: there is simply no solution, but I still believe Canada shouldn't be part of it and sending young solders to die for dubious reasons (under glorified names such as freedom or liberty).

Stopping ISIS is a "dubious reason"?

What is the this "CBC" line you are referring to? Is it the line that refuses to demonize 1,000,000 Canadians for the actions of a handful? Years ago there were more IRA terrorists in Canada than there are Muslim ones now. I guess you must have felt the CBC should have come our full bore against those horrible Roman Catholic Irish people? Somehow I doubt it. After all they are white northern Europeans.
