I immigrated from USA to Canada 40 years ago,even with a guaranteed job upon arrival the immigration paperwork took the best part of a year and a half.I've never regretted making that move as Canada is a Wonderful country.
I'd get the ball rolling on the immigration. If you do get the green light for permanent residence in Canada you can always return to the USA if you find Canada not to your liking.

Canada is a great country,its been a pleasure spending the biggest part of my life here., One of the proudest moments of my life was going through the citizenship ceremony to become a Canadian Citizen.
