It seems like some people, mostly immigrants are up in arms about the new sex-ed curriculum. What exactly is the problem with the new curriculum? I had sex-ed in elementary school, I assume most Canadians children do, what exactly is pissing certain groups off so much? What I have read about the curriculum so far seems reasonable to me.

A public elementary school in Toronto was left nearly empty on Monday as parents protested against the province's new sex ed curriculum.
"Between 200 and 300 protesters voiced their concerns with changes to the current sex ed system outside Thorncliffe Park Public School, said the CBC's James Murray. Toronto District School Board spokesman Ryan Bird said 1,220 of the 1,350 Grade 1 to Grade 5 students are not currently in class.
Meanwhile, across the city, the Toronto District School Board recorded 34,762 elementary school absences.
That's an increase of 144 percent compared to last Monday when there were 14,191 absences reported"
A few years ago the TDSB website had a link to a "sex-ed" website that encouraged children to experiment with homosexuality and all that. Seemed that the intent was not so much educating for health reasons as it was social engineering. If people want the State separate from religion, then the State has to stay out of religion. One of the ways that the State interferes is through so-called "sex-ed".
NB. My own sex-ed classes experience were a joke. I remember one of my teachers making a really idiotic statement about masturbation. This same teacher also had a habit of being "fatherly" to a few of the girls in my grade, sometimes clasping them "protectively" on the shoulders iirc. Years later I'm reading the paper and lo-and-behold there's an article about this same teacher, now at another school, had been found guilty of assault (not sexual) for repeatedly touching some of his students. He had also faced a committee that found him guilty of "professional misconduct". Great to know that my "sex-ed" enlightenment had come from a pervert...

Seriously doubt it 'encouraged' it, but probably rather mentioned it's natural to have some inclination to it. Which it is. Even if it did encourage it, it's obvious that it only annoys you because you're personally against it, and encouraging something (albeit practiced safely) totally normal doesn't really cause harm anyways so I don't see the problem.

From my personal observations, the majority of the Parents that are upset are from the Muslim, Hindi, and Sikh communities, who are conservative and who reject the concept of "The Government knows better than you, about how to raise and teach your kids ".
I found it wonderfully ironic that the largest group of protestors came from Thorncliff Park Public School, which is located in the area that Kathleen Wynn represents, as a MPP. Of the 1400 kids in that school, 93 percent were NOT at school this week, due to parental protests. The Premier is a self identified lesbian, and a former Minister of Education in Ontario. Can we suggest that when the next Provincial election comes along......she is not going to be re elected ? Those Parents can vote, if they are citizens, and they aren't going to forget this situation.
Added to the concerns, one of the leading proponents of the new sex education program was recently convicted of sexual offences against kids. He was a deputy Minister in the Ontario Liberal Government. He was also a leader at OISE, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, a left wing hang out that has some very odd ideas about what your kids should be learning.
The Ontario Liberals have spent a lot of time and money courting the "ethnic vote " and this may be the one thing that sees them turfed out of office. It isn't just the conservative religious groups that are upset....many who live in the rural parts of Ontario are also dismayed at the idea of handing such important information over to "teachers ".

Not sure what "important information" is at stake here.
Let's be realistic: it's 2015, when every kid above the age of 10 has ready access to a smartphone or tablet device (and starting this April, Apple Watch and Android wear devices). Thanks to cloud based apps like Snapchat, FB, and 24/7 internet availability, things like sexting, online bullying, and access to R-rated content are already rampant among in schools. Do these parents really think they can put a force field around their kids by opposing sexual education in an open environment? If you don't teach them, kids today are smart enough to find easy work arounds and will access those content one way or the other, without any hesitation. Would parents really want their kids to learn about sexual orientation via some R-rated online content on their smartphone or a mobile app with some stranger? I grew up during the time when Skype, Facebook, and mobile apps were just coming to the market, and even back then, I remember there was already mass adoption of these digital media tools in my school, accessing information as innocent as Wikipedia to highly graphical web pages and online chats with strangers. A sign of times.
A bit weird, but again, still pretty harmless 'advice'. It's more funny than anything else. Also, this seems to be about masturbation, nothing about homosexuality, so although it still doesn't matter, I don't see the connection.

Nothing is wrong with it. Keep your kids at home if you want. Nobody cares and it's only hurting them.
