Historical TV series about a family of French nobles living in New France at the time of the British conquest. Nicely done. Many episodes in order on Youtube but not sure about subtitles.
Did these movies have a following outside of Quebec?
They all would be repertory (art house) type films. Of course, in some countries the clientele for such movies is larger than in others, and makes up a larger share of the population.
Movies mentioned here that got decent international releases were: Incendies, Jesus de Montreal, Black Robe, CRAZY, Dr Lewis, Leolo.
I recently saw a Montreal-based filmed called "Heartbeats" (Les Amours imaginaires, 2010), directed by rising-star French-Canadian actor/director Xavier Dolan. Really impressive music, plot, and scenery showing the streets and neighborhoods of Montreal. For anyone interested in cultural interactions of modern day Montreal, especially the youth culture, it's a really great film.
