Of course it still is, and will always be a fluid situation. But I think it can easily get very very messy when the time comes, because a few countries/political leaders will resort to the old fashioned way.

Personally, I just hope that our political leaders can move beyond this kind of petty us-vs-them mentality, and instead focus on creating a stable and peaceful environment for the happiness of our peoples.
I'd still argue that things are way more stable than they were before.

Agreed. And I hope that they stay this way for the foreseeable future.

My sense is that it is reciprocal, but Switzerland being what it is, some asymmetry is always possible I guess.

Isn't it very Canadian to think: "Well, this canton accepts everyone from other cantons as citizens immediately, whereas in this other canton, people have to go through a bunch of tests in order to become citizens. How unfair!"

Swiss cantons can most definitely do things differently in a number of fields (not sure about citizenship though) and no one seems to bat an eye about it there.

Yes...it reminds me of my little brother when he was young. When he was 2 he kept banging his head on the floor to get attention. It worked, until one day that floor was a cement porch. He stopped.
I'm waiting for my cement porch

Isn't death penalty outlawed in Canada?

And how are you so sure it is Harper who will do the hanging after October?

I'm not sure that it was ever abolished for the specific crime of treason, but I could be wrong.

As for the upcoming election, I have no idea who will win. I'm no fan of Harper, but given the clown car of candidates we have running, I'll likely vote for the devil I know rather than the devil I don't. At least Harper got rid of the long gun registry and didn't raise my taxes. As a white male, that is probably more than I can seriously expect any of them to do for me.

Good for you! Easy access to fire arms, low taxes. This is the life.
