I've always been split between Montreal, and the Wings. Detroit is the closest thing I have to a hometown team. lol

Detroit is my home team too! I always wondered why so many Windsorites choose Toronto for their team, when Detroit is the obvious home team choice. I think it's almost 50/50, which is crazy!

I suppose geographic proximity is not the only factor in sports team loyalty.

Where I live we are officially in the Ottawa Senators market, we're in the same metro area as Ottawa, we're around half an hour from the Senators' home rink, but the true home team (by a two-to-one or three-to-one margin) is definitely the Montreal Canadiens, who are about 2 hours away.

Even though the Senators make an effort through French-language media partners in Gatineau, most of the promotions, merchandising, coverage, etc. here favours the Habs by a wide margin.

Part of this is because many corporate sponsors and media outlets have Quebec-wide campaigns featuring the Habs, but it's also local preference for sure. All of the local sports bars feature Habs' games with top billing over the Sens' and it would unthinkable for them to do the opposite.
