Christie Blatchford: Ruling in Twitter harassment trial could have enormous fallout for free speech | National Post

What do you think of this? It sounds outrageous to me. They admit he didn't make any threats of sexually harass them, but now he faces a charge of criminal harassment for refusing to support a feminists plan to smear an Ontario-based computer game programmer.

I'm going to disagree with you just in case I need to go to court and then sue you civilly. It's my new get-rich scheme. Argue on the internet, get butt-hurt, sue.

Thank you Provincial Court of Ontario!

The way it's summed up, if anybody is guilty of harassment, it's those girls.

There's gotta be more to the story.

I agree, looks like those young women are the ones doing the harassing.

I love Christie Blatchford...........she refuses to be intimidated by the politically correct and speaks her mind.

I tried to read that article yesterday and I don't even understand what's going on. It's written in the most unnecessarily confusing way possible.

It's not horrible journalism. It's Christie Blatchford.

Blatchford is, as she has been for the last twenty or thirty years, an op-ed columnist. She's bounced around between the four Toronto dailies, writing opinions according to the standards of the publication she's writing for. For the Toronto Sun, her opinions have been hard right. For the Toronto Star, her opinion columns have been hard left. For the Globe and Mail, she's been right on economic issues, left on social ones. For the National Post, she's been whichever way the wind blows today. Tomorrow, it may be different.

I've met Blatchford once or twice in person. On each occasion, after speaking with her in person, I have been left puzzled. What do you stand for, Christie? Or do you stand for the position of whatever publication pays you the most today?

Journalists report facts. Op-ed columnists, like Blatchford, write opinions. Journalists and op-ed columnists are two entirely different creatures.
