Why DO I see tens of thousands of people/license plates from Quebec come down to spend summer vacations at the South Jersey Shore(Cape May,Wildwoods,Stone Harbor,Avalon etc..) but very rarely see any people/license plates from Ontario?

Where do the Ontario vactioners end up?
It's a decent drive from just Montreal to Atlantic City. Maybe that's as far as they want to go? Hard to say.
I think you'd find a lot more Ontario plates in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, and the Gulf States.
Or, they just stay in Ontario...head to cottage country.
Seems like the reverse here. In the summer, I'm always seeing tons of NY, NJ, Penn, SC, NC, OH plates, most with campers, or small trailers headed north. I know a lot of Americans own cottages in northern Ontario that have remained in the family for generations, as back at the turn of the 20th century, cottage country is where wealthy Americans would come to get away from the hustle and heat of the big cities.
Southern Ontario has nicer bigger beaches than Quebec does so Ontarians stay closer to home for that: Sandbanks, Wasaga, Grand Bend, Turkey Point etc.
Does Quebec have any beaches that could be at all considered "touristy"? It seems to me that Quebec's shoreline is either rocky river front or rocky ocean front, and most of it too cold to be attractive to most beach goers.
Ontario has a huge lake shore, stretching across the northern shores of Lakes Ontario and Erie and the eastern shore of Lake Huron with lots of sheltered, sandy beaches. Ontario and Huron are pretty deep and might be too cold for some people, but Erie is much shallower and warmer.
I also think that Ontarians wanting ocean beaches might just do what western New Yorkers, western Pennsylvanians, and Ohioans do when they want ocean: head for Virginia and North Carolina.
its called the Sunwing all inclusive to Cuba.. For probably the same price as gas, cottage or hotel, buying your own food and booze (if not cheaper you can go to Varadero).
If its just a weekend thing as AJ says, in Ontario people particularly in the GTA/Golden Horseshoe which is the lion's share of Ontario will just go to the many lakes, beaches on those lakes we already have here. Those who want a beach vacation far away I can't image driving to Virginia or N.C unless you want to go on a road trip when you can hop on a plane and do a cheap all inclusive in the Caribbean or Mexico..
Ontarians, particularly southwestern Ontarians, can also go to Lake Michigan beaches, which are some of the most spectacular in NA. When I first saw them in my early 30s, I couldn't believe I hadn't known about such gems, when, as an Ontarian, I'd lived so close.

Those Pure Michigan commercials don't lie about the majesty of Michigan coastlines, especially the Gold Coast.
Yeah I've heard a lot of good things about Michigan.. I'm not sure how many Ontarians - esp those In the GTA would drive to there though when we have decent options and beautiful lakes here (Muskoka, Kawartha's, Wasaga etc are just so much closer).. By the time you drive 5-6 hours from GTA to MI or 15 hours to Virginia - depending on where you're going in the U.S and pay for everything as I mentioned hotels or cottage rental, food, booze etc, you could literally just go with friends or family to Cuba for the same price or less. I'd consider MI if I lived in London On or west Southwest of it - in the GTA not so much I think.
Not to be outdone, National Geographic has ranked the Muskoka's highly on their list of summer get aways
Serously though, i'm not going to go to Cuba, Northern MI, or Virginia for a weekend living in T.O - i'd go to the Muskoka's, Kawartha's or Wasage for a weekend though - with that said if its for a week why not just hop on a plane and go to Cuba and save the hassle of driving long distances and worrying about food or booze when I have Cubans taking care of all that for me cheaply
