This.

And Montreal/Miami?

Aside from language barriers, I don't see it at all.
Montreal has a very NE urban vibe, whereas Miami has more of the typical suburban sprawl feel to it.

You've overlooked Hamilton as Pittsburgh, Windsor or London as Detroit, and Winnipeg as Kansas City

Truthfully, I know too little about either the MO or KS side of Kansas City to judge whether Winnipeg is more similar to either side of Kansas City or Minneapolis...

Really, good comparisons would be between Canadian cities and Australian cities.

Toronto: Queens NY and Chicago

Montreal: Brooklyn and Boston

Vancouver: Seattle, San Francisco and a bit of L.A.

Calgary: Denver

Edmonton: no clue. Some sort of Minneapolis/Salt Lake City hybrid?

Ottawa: should be Washington, but too small to really compare to it. No idea.

Winnipeg: Minneapolis + Omaha

Hamilton: Pittsburgh + Buffalo + Newark

Niagara Falls: Atlantic City + Niagara Falls NY

Kingston: Burlington VT

London ON: maybe Columbus?

Windsor: Basically the Canadian extension of metro Detroit

Halifax: Portland ME

Victoria: No idea

Regina: Bismarck ND + Wichita?

Saskatoon: No idea

As far as American cities goes, I find Ottawa kind of feels like Portland, Oregon. Very little blight, nice downtown with lots of things to do but not quite ''hopping'' like a real big city, highly educated, sensible, outdoorsy, understated.

Others I would also compare to are Austin, Madison WI (if it were bigger) and the Twin Cities of MN (if they were smaller).

I also got a strong Ottawa vibe in Adelaide, Australia.

And yet you don't say "Montreal is nothing like Chicago." Why's that?
