So where is the new "It" City in Canada? (employment, construction)

Now that Alberta is in an unstable situation with oil prices... where is the next "great place" to be in Canada in your opinion? Only choosing from major cities & surrounding areas. Does Vancouver & area have a lot of promise? How about Toronto & GTA??? What do YOU think?
Well even before higher oil prices, Toronto was always the largest and most diverse economy (Montreal second, Vancouver third) in the country since the late 60's so it depends on how you define 'it' and which industry you speak.. Vancouver and Toronto have had 'it' industries in construction for example for over a decade.
With that said in terms of CMA's that are expected to have the strongest growth rate of the top 13 Canadian MSA's in terms of population (many smaller cities could actually have stronger growth) according to the Conference Board of Canada are Toronto, Vancouver and Halifax.
Nope, it has a lower unemployment rate than both Toronto and Vancouver. The oil crisis hasen't affercted Manitoba and it has always been a city with lower unemployment. Canada's West has always had a better economy and more jobs than the East.
Having said all of this, technically there won't be a new "It" city because the economy will bounce back in Alberta and Saskatchewan and they will again be the provinces with the best economy.

You got a skill... you wont get paid what you're worth, or get the high level skills to get your further in your career in the Peg... you'll leave... there is no opportunity there... and far too much competition for crumbs
It's a great city with a lot of great attributes... but growth isn't one of them...
Sure go there for career opportunities... then tell me how you like dealing with 7 months of winter...

Just looking at unemployment rate is disingenuous. Its the type of work people who are employed do and not just a rate. Making a blanket statement that the 'wests' economy is better than the east is nonsense..
Cities like Toronto and Montreal have the largest economies in the country (metro GDP is 323 Billion and 180 Billion respectively) with a lot of good paying jobs in diverse industries like Finance, Health, Technology, Skilled trades etc.. Sure Unemployment rates may be higher but have you considered as well that this is because they are magnet cities for international immigration and national migration and that while some miss the employment boat MANY do not because they are such large economies that have the mass to attract?
