Clearly Mr. Trudeau surely cannot be worse (with a "deer in headlights" virw on foriegn policy) than the son of a former president in the south (i.e. the younger George Bush)...no?

Now will Harper swallow his pride and step down tonight..?

Horrible night for the NDP though... didn't see that comming....

I think the NDP's poor showing is due to people voting strategically. I was thinking a minority Conservative government was possible until my mother talked about how awful Harper was. And she said she didn't want a crippled minority government and another election in a year or two. And therefore her vote went to the Liberals. If my parents are voting Liberal, then a majority Liberal government was possible.

I dont think you understand. The Bloc did better than anticipated. Unfortunately this election is a small win for separatists. But thats ok cause we'll get free marijuana right?

What is Official Party status in Canada?

A party that has at least 12 elected members in the House of Commons. Such a party is entitled to question the government during Question Period and has a research budget. Otherwise, members of a party that has no official status are considered as independent Members of Parliament.
Two seats short of offical party status and that douchebag Duceppe isn't there. The Bloc had nowhere to go but up after the last election, so if this is what's considered 'better than anticipated', then I'm completely fine with it.

Alberta Reformer tears taste great.

Stephen Harper governed with the agenda of the West being alienated by the rest of the country. What's so ironic is that he probably ended up alienating the West even more. This election was pretty much Canada flipping the bird at not just Stephen Harper, but the whole Reform bunch, and nobody with a connection to Alberta will probably ever be elected a party leader (especially not the Conservatives, I bet), hence have a shot a being Prime Minister, for a very long time.

Expect a complete restructuring of the CPC.

I have to say, whether you like Mr. Trudeau or not, you gotta admit that there was something uplifting about this entire story. He was the underdog; everyone made fun of him, calling him a pretty boy, just not ready, inexperienced, nice hair though, etc. And Mr. Mulcair even referred to him as Justin instead of Mr. Trudeau. Yet despite all of this, he went from 3rd place to winning a majority (although to be fair, it was probably more out of hatred for Mr. Harper rather than love for Mr. Trudeau).

Thanks for sharing! Of all the candidates, Mr. Trudeau seems to be the most human to me.
