It's mostly people from outside Quebec (especially other Canadians and Americans) who refer to Montreal and places in Quebec as French, with the country called France in mind.

People in Quebec consider themselves and the place they inhabit to be Québécois, of which the old French influences are undoubtedly a part, but no one here thinks we or this place are just like what you find across the ocean.

Yes, Saint John's, NF. I don't like abbreviations. Saint Louis, Saint Paul and Saint Petersburg for me!

Fair enough, but the official spelling for the capital of Newfoundland is still "St. John's".

And the official name of Bangkok is Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam. Do you call it that? Are you wrong for calling it 'Bangkok'?

Speaking as an American who absolutely loves visiting Canada, I favor St. John's, Halifax and Saskatoon in that order. I didn't "get" Toronto, only liked Montreal, thought Niagara Falls was filthy and Vancouver a bit too busy for my tastes. Everywhere else in your country I visited I felt right at home.

Actually, in Thai language there is no 'Bangkok', have only 'Krung Theep' (meaning 'City of Angels')

I listed my 5 favorite Canadian cities and then everybody started bombarding me with non-germane barbs about 'Saint John's' vs. 'St. John's'. Whatever helps you sleep at night I suppose
