So I'm not exactly sure whether this is the right place to post this or not but basically, I'm from NS and my girlfriend lives in Massachusetts, she has been accepted into Dalhousie in Halifax and plans to move here in September to attend. She's not interested in living on campus and was either planning on moving in with my family or living with a couple of friends and myself.

She makes the drive here from Massachusetts once or twice a month and usually has no problem but today she got stopped at the border and was questioned and this came up, the border patrol officer more or less told her that if she plans on moving in with my family or me, her student visa application will be automatically denied because they don't approve applicants who plan on living with significant others.

I was curious if anyone could tell me if this is true and if her only real options are to live on campus or just say she's moving in with friends or if this person was just lying to her because she said the woman was somewhat hostile to her for no real reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I haven't been able to find information on this particular problem, thank you so much!

I think the border guard was just being difficult and thought he would exercise a power trip at your girlfriends expense, if you have a valid student visa what difference does it make as to where you live when attending school.
I can find nothing addressing the issue on the gvmnt website-

That's what I was thinking and after finding nothing related to it on that site, I figured it must have been him or her just power tripping but we're just sort of worried considering she's already been accepted and as far as I'm aware, it's past the date to apply for on campus housing if she was even interested in that, thanks for the response!
