You for the most part have very good english. Your grammar is good enough probably better than some Americans. Yet, you have been living so close to Americans and Canadiens, and obviously you speak english a lot which is probably how you have good grammar. So why havent you guys been able to obtain a more neutral accent when speaking english?
What makes you think I don't have a fairly neutral accent when speaking in English?

I think he/she was meaning francophones in general... We all know you are an exception to the rule for second language learners

Yes but I don't imagine you speak English like that nun... you probably have no detectable accent at all in English. I've met other francophones that speak English like an anglophone, mostly Franco-Ontarians.

If the question is asked about francophones in general, then I guess one part of the answer is that most of us do not possess good English grammar.

Of those that do, this likely correlates in most cases with only a mild accent. Though yeah, you can find someone with excellent grammar but a thick accent due to a lack of oral practice.

I have a teeny bit more of a French accent in English than Justin Trudeau does.

By my estimation...

20 pc of francophones in Qc have English skills similar to mine

Another 20 pc have passable English skills but not really fluent

60 pc have English skills ranging from very very basic to nil

I've been watching some Montreal Gazette videos where the French Quebecker interviewee speaks English. The accents ran the gamut from heavy to non-existent.
