Even Newfoundland, though kind of occupied by the British from around the same time as New France and Acadia were founded, didn't really have much settlement until the latter part of the 1700s.

Brits explored and traded throughout Canada for much longer. Settler colonies were a more recent phenomenon, but nonetheless you see my point we've had a long history with Britain. As it has evolved as a country, so have we with it.

Yes, I see your point. But English Canada as a colony or society didn't really begin to exist until around the time of the Treaty of Paris and the American Revolution.

It's a tough call for me. Both places are probably at the very bottom for parts of North America I'd want to live in.

News Flash! ...Canadians can float in their pools too...even with ice cubes in their glass!

Houston works for you ...I'm glad you're happy.

I notice you don't mention any climate negatives about living in Houston, Texas...
maybe for you there are none?

I googled "pros-cons" Houston climate and for people who live in
Houston, certain "cons" kept coming up ...namely, too hot and humid summers.
Trade off for mild winter is a brutally long hot summer.

I know for me that would be a big negative, for me I prefer living where I am,
not everyone thinks warmer = better, don't assume that.

In another post, you mentioned golfing in December, my house backs on a golf course,
and last year there was golfing until december 24th when the course closed for the season.
Also, as you know, there is golfing all year in Canada in BC.

To be fair though, who's golfing when it's 6 degrees celsius and pouring rain? No climate is perfect. Everywhere on Earth has some aspect of ****tiness to its climate. In Canada you get a good mix of seasons and a lot of people appreciate that about living here.

I have.

Seriously, Canadian golfers play when we can. Somewhere, a buddy of mine has a photo of me launching a shot from greenside--with snowbanks in the background And you haven't really played until you've hit from casual water (aka snowmelt) on the course.

Six degrees Celsius, and pouring rain? You think that stops Canadian golfers? Pffffff! Not likely!

You can play basketball outside when it's zero degrees. Doesn't mean it is fun and most people don't enjoy it.
Under 10C, it ceases to be comfortable doing sports outdoor. Even some walking is not as pleasant. Can't deny that. We are all built the same way.

I agree to a point....but not about walking...I like cool temps

I generally don't hike in summer (I do biking instead) ...hiking in summer is too
buggy and I sweat like pig.

I start hiking in late September and "peak" in November....
November is the primo month for hiking ...nice and cool...no bugs!
Better views too ...no leaves on the trees.

Hiking is enjoyable for me down to just above freezing.

I've hiked in winter too, in temps -1C to -6C range.

Below -7C / 20F ...no thanks ...possibly of getting frost bite.

Playing sports and walking is fine as long as there is no wind. It's the wind that kills me. I can easily handle cold weather if it wasn't for the damn wind chill.
