That game show clip must have been pretty old, because the announcer said he jogged "a mile and a half". When was the last time any of you measured distances in miles?

Miles are still used in common speech in Canada, though not usually for precise distances. Usually to add emphasis.


Even in French:


"Il vivait sa vie à 100 milles à l'heure"... implying that someone lived their life at a breakneck pace.
