That practically says, go underground.
Actually the key to the law is "in public". Also it is illegal to keep a common bawdy house, that limits the pimps and large scale operations.

There's escort agencies and call out places everywhere. The law is designed to keep it off the streets, and fairly unorganized.

Pimps and organized crime have their hands deep in the escorts business. It was easier for police to catch underage girls on the street. Now that the business has moved online it is much harder.

Neither do I. I believe that buying AND selling sex should be legalized but heavily regulated. However, in many locations (US is what I'm more familiar with) we are a long way off from establishing enough support for the legalized prostitution.

It is a compromise of placing the well-being/rights of working girls/prostitutes/escorts while still satisfying those in the community that believe that prostitution itself should remain "essentially" illegal.

I have friends who are working girls either as their primary source of income or as a side income. Due to the nature of their work outside the boundaries of law, they are specifically targeted knowing very well that the chances of assault being reported to the authorities is next to zero. My primary concern is that they should be privy to the same legal protections that the rest of us have.

Johns occasionally get busted in sweeps. Pimps are targeted especially, too.

If prostitution was to become legal, pimping would not be as big of a problem.

You can have a criminal record for prostitution as seller or buyer. But if you're buddy is at the corner of the room filming it and putting it on the internet for viewing its 100% legal and you could make money off it.

Does that make any sense!

I like the idea of a Red Light District located in or next to the financial district. That would avoid a lot of commuting as the people there during the day also screw people for a living.

Despite my views on prostitution I think it should be legal for adults. If it is legal at least sex trade workers might be better protected from being exploited or victimized. Making it illegal only seems to be making it more dangerous. I met this woman in Toronto who was part of an advocacy group in support of making it full legal while back who explained the legal situation. In the back of my head I was like ... why don't we just make the law more clear? ex legal or not instead of hiding behind confusing rules. If rules are confusing people are really just going to misunderstand and break them anyways.

Legalization (and therefore bringing it under some form of regulation) would also make it a bit easier to keep minors out of prostitution.

There has been studies done where legalized prostitution has lead to a decrease in the divorce rate in the area. Win win win.
