I'm planning on spending 2 weeks to a month in Canada. I've visited before and have T-Mobile network. They claim to have service through all of Canada but it didn't function on my last visit. Having spent my previous visit to Canada stumbling around searching for Wi-Fi hotspots I have no desire to repeat the experience.

Any options for temporary service?

The Wi-Fi with mobile can be spotty in Canada. Are you only trying to make calls to others? Do you have wifi calling on all the time? My significant other travels to Canada a lot and we have tmobile. Sometimes it's real clear and other times it's bit and miss.

I was able to make calls; it's text and internet that weren't functional.

Check your phone setiings and rate plan. Data, talk, and text all work in Canada and very well, and on my plan it is unlimited at no extra charge. T-mobile roams on Bell or Telus and works even in rural areas.

My advice is to get dump T-Mobile and get Cricket which has infinitely better service. Costs me $45 per month and I get 4g lte data and unlimited calls as long as 50% of the calls come from the USA you are fine. It uses the Rogers network which is the best in Canada. T-Mobile on the other hand uses various network which in my 2+ years experience are dicey at best. I had minimal coverage with T-Mobile and more times than not had none.

No problems with coverage on Tmobile all over southern Ontario. Cricket charges roaming in Canada, tmobile does not. Simple choice to make.

Cricket does NOT charge roaming in Canada and Mexico for calls to or from there on $50 and up plan:
