In Ontario, businesses pay a payroll tax of 1 to 2% and employees pay a health care tax of up to $900/year. In addition, part of general taxes fund healthcare. Businesses like the tax - it's low and predictable and they have no further healthcare obligations to employees. The public likes it because they are covered whether they are working or not.

To make it work in the US:
Expand Medicare to all and fund it through a business payroll tax and healthcare income tax. Drop Part A & B premiums. Employers will drop their private healthcare plans when faced with the tax - and replace with more limited supplemental plans that cover extra not covered by the gov't.

It is simple, high-quality, and efficient, and dental is covered, just not sustainable.

Idk about France. I heard that it's good.
