True, even if he was leftist it is right wingers that have picked up his flag.

It's called control. It doesn't work. Our most blighted big cities in the US are all controlled by liberals who want to do all the thinking for the 'ignorant' fools who live there. Sanctuaries for illegals, murders, litter, corruption, drugs, all the good stuff. Chicago, LA, New Orleans, Miami, Detroit, all run by liberals.

LOL That's just you. We don't have the deplorable crime rates America has. Neither do developed liberal nations in Europe.

It's an extreme right wing flag that's why. Hitler fought agains the extreme left...communism. It was not part of his make up.

In the end though it really doesn't matter if an extreme ideology is right or left wing since extremes are never good.

The bulk of the country that is not really that great... does not really have any global awareness and it just does not seem to have anything really attractive about it ( ex lots of uneducated and ignorant people).

Maybe America has just taken off it's mask? Maybe it really was never at core a modern and progressive place? The face of America for the last 8 years was modern, progressive and educated. This new face really paints a ugly picture about America and Americans. What a shame. Hopefully this mistake will be America's problem... and not impact Canadians and Mexicans as much. Maybe Mexico and Canada should brick up our boarders so this ignorance does not spread.
The bulk of the country is inward looking and has entrenched beliefs that are not going away about gun owner ship, the importance of the founding fathers and American style personal freedom (or what they consider to be freedom). The media in their country is for the most part liberal and not in the least representative of the countries true "heart". Like I said, they are what they are and they aren't going to change to become more like us or Western Europe.

Even those liberal progressive modern cities you visited wear a mask to disguise their conservative undertones.

You are in a Canadian forum. Canadian cities are different from US ones in many ways. Planning, development etc can always be better, but there is a reason Canadian cities get ranked as some of the best in the world in which to live.

On that note, out most extreme mayor ever to hold office in Canada, Rob Ford in Toronto, was not a liberal, nor a Liberal, but a Conservative. However, no one I know believes that his political leanings were the real concern. His drug use was and knowing known criminals etc. was.

The great liberal/conservative divide that exists in the US is much less in Canada. It's there, but not on such a personal level.

Your election last night brought that out even more to me. I have Conservative friends, who politically we are polar opposites, but we still get together for a beer ( or 4 ) and when politics comes up, we treat it almost like a sport. In fact, last week we all agreed, that we DON'T want to become like the US where the divide is so great, that the conversation stops.

I don't think they will get that way of life back, no matter who is in power.

I was reading an article last month in Techcrunch about robots and came across some interesting statistics:

Quote:
There is no denying that the U.S. and Canada have been losing jobs to offshore competition for almost half a century. From 2000 to 2010 alone, 5.6 million jobs disappeared.

Interestingly, though, only 13 percent of those jobs were lost due to international trade. The vast remainder, 85 percent of job losses, stemmed from “productivity growth” — another way of saying machines replacing human workers.
Quote:
Over the last 20 years, inflation-adjusted U.S. manufacturing output has increased by almost 40 percent, and annual value added by U.S. factories has reached a record $2.4 trillion. While there are fewer jobs, more is getting done. Manufacturing employees are better educated, better paid and producing more valuable products — including the technology that enables them to be so much more productive.

In fact, there are currently two million jobs going unfulfilled in the manufacturing sector, largely due to an aging workforce — the average age of a manufacturing worker is almost 45, two and a half years above the national non-farm median — and negligible interest in those jobs from younger generations.

There's a link in the article to a report on the skills gap in U.S. manufacturing.

I think he would need it regardless of where he goes. People in that type of position who don't go out of their way to provoke and insult people need in ..... based on his previous actions he is REALLY likely to need.
