This is confusing - Trump tweet this morning:
Toyota Motor said will build a new plant in Baja, Mexico, to build Corolla cars for U.S. NO WAY! Build plant in U.S. or pay big border tax.
However, those Corolla cars are currently being built in CANADA.

Quote:
Trump’s tweet confuses Toyota’s existing Baja plant with the planned $1 billion plant in Guanajuato city. Baja produces around 100,000 pick-up trucks and truck beds annually. The plant in Guanajuato will build Corollas and have an annual capacity of 200,000 when it comes online in 2019, shifting production of the small car from Canada.
Donald Trump tweet threatens another big border tax, this time on Toyota - National | Globalnews.ca

So does that mean that Toyota might decide to leave production in Canada? If so, thanks Trump!

Well, maybe for different reasons, but I think it will be good for Canada too.

Our government has thrown billions of dollars support the auto industry and those so called "jobs", an industry that is dying and jobs which can't exist without massive subsidy.

The Canadian "auto industry" could be in bigger trouble if the Trump administration changes the US business tax rate from 35% down to 15%, as he promised. It'll be a no brainer to move more production back to the US, and the big three will want to...Canadian auto workers are paid much better than their US counterparts.

If the Canadian industry cannot compete without rad advantage then it should die.

Odd that Trump's clothing line was made in Mexico and China and that he uses Chinese steel in his buildings. Yet he is asking companies to "build in America"?

Odd to me.

It is not odd at all.

It is possible to force American car companies to have plants in the US, but not possible to make socks in the US. Build in American doesn't mean build EVERYTHING in the US.

I know making fun of Trump is kind of cool right now, but you need to look at it on a case by case basis. Ford, for example, did change their plant regarding building a plant in Mexico.

Exclusive: Top Trudeau advisers have high-level meetings with Trump officials | CTV News

Quote:
CTV News was told that throughout these meetings, Trump's team became more receptive to Canada's case that the two economies remain integrated, that Canada is the biggest export market for 35 states, and so imposing taxes or tariffs at the border could hurt both economies.

It's hypocritical. He didn't distinguish what type of companies during his so called campaign . He ranted on about US jobs being sent outside of the US when he does the exact same thing.

If you think making fun of Trump is some sort of " cool " thing people are doing you have totally misread what is really going on.

The opposition to a man like Trump has nothing to do with people trying to be cool.
