Hi All,

I'm considering a job offer that would have me relocate to Barrie, ON. I'll be relocating from Holland, Michigan. I may need to drive to Toronto 1-2 per month for work-related meetings.

For those of you who are more familiar with Barrie, can you tell me what would be a good place to move/live? My spouse stays at home and I have 2 kids (5 and 1 year olds). I'm looking for neighborhoods that are safe with good schools.

My budget to buy a house is around $500-800K.

Thanks!

Your budget should be more than adequate for Barrie housing and your commute will more than likely be down the 400 unless your business related meetings are in the north end of TO.

As far as neighbourhoods in Barrie go, I will defer to those with more knowledge of the requirements of children and schooling.

Barrie is a beautiful area with access to lake Simcoe and the Georgian Bay area within spitting distance.

Think boating, swimming, downhill and cross country skiing, Ice fishing in the winter, snowmobiling up the yazzoo, hunting, if that's in your basket and any number of other outdoor activities that escape me right now.

Avoid driving to Toronto on Sunday evenings as all the cottage country people are returning to the city, same applies for driving to Barrie Friday evening or Saturday morning as every one in Toronto are heading up the 400 to get to their cottages. Other than that a beautiful area with many lakes,Georgian Bay to the east and Algonquin Park to the north, you'll love it..

You'll love it here. It's beautiful.

My husband and I moved up here nearly two years ago and we have never looked back.

Look in the south end for homes. Anywhere along Prince William Way, Mapleview and Big Bay Point is great for families.

Stay away from Leticia Heights. There are some great homes near the downtown area but Downtown Barrie can be very sketchy as well.
