But maybe because Montreal is a lot cheaper? UofT is cool, but a seedy one bedroom apartment nearby costs $1500.
Plus we all know Ontario's stupid draconian alcohol policy.
You don't even like alcohol lol but still, I don't think living in a place where the bars close at 2 instead of what 3 is that big of a deal. Alcohol is cheaper in Ontario too
As for living - I lived in a basic 1 bdrm apartment for years downtown in the villiage - it may have looked 'seedy' as you say but it was clean and the neighbours were fun and interesting and it was a lot less than 1500 - I had a blast.
Besides a student doesn't need to live in luxury and many can live in a room for a few hundreds bucks a month in the Annex - no probs plus they won't be alone.

The only booze that is really cheaper in Ontario is wine. And SAQ have announced a price drop ti bring them more into line with LCBO.
Beer which is what most students drink is way cheaper in Quebec.

Hard liquor is also a bit cheaper in Quebec.
Cool - I used some link that someone posted comparing the price of a Belgian brand of beer and it being pricier in QC than Ontario but i'll digress to your knowledge of beer prices in both places border boy. As for hard liquor, I don't remember the last time I bought it in Canada. I either get it at a DF (I just bought single malt scotch at a Chinese DF and it was a good 25 percent cheaper than here plus a larger bottle) while travelling or get friends to bring me a bottle when they go to Cuba or something and just stock up.
At the LCBO I only buy wine and some locally produced craft beer (probably too high brow for a student ) but once you go craft you can never go back!
Btw the historically lower wine prices at the LCBO vs SAQ -is that because of access to a greater selection at the LCBO? It depends on the location but I am always impressed by the wine selection at quite a few LCBO stores here in Toronto.

no, I am not talking about bars, which I don't care at all. I am talking about government monopolizing alcohol business. Want to buy some wine at 6pm to have a good time with friends? good luck since all LCBOs are closed.
Rent in Toronto rose substantially and I think you know it. My friend used to share a two bedroom (not livingroom) apartment on Elm street for $750 each, and that was 5 years ago. That apartment was pretty bad. All the hallways smell and rooms are small (7-8 sq m).
I am not saying Toronto is a bad place for students (my nephew got admitted to UofT but he decided to attend a different school hardly anyone heard of), it is just Montreal has its advantage in that respect - how dare you take that away
The only reason I didn't live in Montreal was because it is even colder than Toronto. That's just really, really cold. oh, Canada.
Wines in Ontario are not that cheap. In Spain, Italy and France, there are many wines you can buy for under 5 euros ($7), some as cheap as 3 euros. A $11.99 wine in Ontario is considered cheap and there are few selections. But admittedly Canadians make more money.
