Canada Ski Town for Family
We are looking to find a clean & healthy place to live that we can find a home walking distance to a good elementary school and market with natural/organic food available that is as close to possible to good skiing.
Would like an area with a decent amount of winter sunshine without an overly harsh/long winter. Local golf and basketball would be a plus as would a few good restaurants with a bit of variety.
By GOOD skiing I mean:
reliable snow
variety of terrain including steeps, trees/glades
large area with relatively few skiers where the powder lasts more than a few hours.
decent weather between storms
Thanks in advance!

So you want a place with great amenities, good infrastructure, great weather, but realtively few people.
Very good luck.

Heck Cypress Mountain has the terrain and minimal waits for the lifts (five people ahead of my guy in line for the in the Alpine area and the Nordic area is fantastic. And it is a half hour drive from downtown Vancouver. I was there yesterday and it snowed for a couple of hours and then clear skies from 1:00 onward. Snow depth at mid mountain is 425cm as of today and it is snowing on Cypress right now as I type this. As for organic/natural foods, walking distance to schools and restaurants you'll find it all on either the North Shore or Vancouver itself.
Oh, and so far this year snowfall has been 765cm! Life is good.

Great suggestions from both of the above posters, except, of course, for the requirement for relatively few people.
Finding a great location with developed amenities usually means it's already been discovered......that's how the amenities stay in business.

Actually I took in the requirement for relatively few people. That's why I commented on the incredibly short lines at the lifts.
And the Nordic area was perfect! Very few people out on the tracks yesterday.
But if the OP was looking for a place to live with relatively few people and access to organic foods/restaurants/etc. then I think they'll have some difficulty.

Fernie BC or Rossland BC
Could throw in Kimberley/Cranbrook as well.
You could throw in Courtney/Comox as well. Great weather on Vancouver Island, and insane snow on Mt Washington.

Nelson,BC would fit the bill ....there is very good powder skiing in the area ....relatively mild winters ....not alot of people either, a nice ski town ... the 1987 movie "Roxanne" starring Steve Martin was shot there ...... also Sun Peaks area north of Kamloops,BC is good too

I'd consider the Courtney/Comox area....It has lots of outdoor recreation, summer and winter. Mount Washington is 16 miles from the Comox Valley. The larger town of Campbell river is also close.

I preferred Blackcomb/Whistler. Had lots of fun there when I was a kiddie. Have a variety of runs.
