This must go back at least 25 years.

Do you have any idea what they are saying in the video? And why do you think West Palm beaches French demographic left town 25 years ago?

The number of Francophones in Century Village - Deerfield Beach has increased in the 20 years or so since my grandparents bought a place there. The complex is still predominately Jewish I'd say, but you hear a lot of French while sitting at the pool or going for a walk.

I would have thought Quebec retirees would feel more at home in Louisiana. There is still plenty of French culture and even native French speakers in Louisiana among the Cajun population.

Not really. Cajuns are well-liked in Quebec but they're culturally very different from people here. They're even very different from the Acadians of the Maritimes who are more their direct relatives. Even though in the latter case a lot more linkages have developed over the past couple of decades.

Plus, Louisiana isn't really much of a beach state and isn't as warm in the winter as SE Florida.

I don't have any indication that the Québécois have left that region of Florida. (Maybe certain cities like West Palm Beach though... not sure?)

I have not yet reached retirement age yet so not sure how much of an allure there will be with my generation. But it seems to have persisted with those who are retired now.

One thing is that Florida is no longer the totally dominant sunshine destination for people here. For shorter winter getaways 25-30 years ago SE Florida was a very common destination. Not so much anymore - people go to Cuba, the Dominican Republic or Mexico for that.

But as a place to spend a longer period of time during the winter, SE Florida is still by far the dominant destination.

Maybe they left because of all the gangs in that area.

I know that and you know that but the topic title seems to infer that Quebecers were in Florida many years ago but are not there now.

I was referring to the age of the video.
