I been told Winnipeg isn't a good city to live in due to high crime there. My struggle is to find a good place to rent with 2 bedrooms to start with at a good price. I am planning to apply for work at the Airport there, so I might want something close by. Is it a good area to live, crimewise and rentwise?

I think if you go looking for crime you will find it.
If you want to live in a nice area close to the airport pick St. James.
If you want to live in a really safe area pick St Vital, or North Kildonan.

I lived in Winnipeg most of my life and never had a problem, my family still lives there and have never had a problem.

You don't want to live in the core areas, that would be dangerous.

Best of luck, I miss Winnipeg but NOT the winters, lol.

I now live in Florida.

Hi!
I been living in Winnipeg for at least 17 years, i am from Trois-Rivieres Quebec..
Well its true that there is a lots of crime here but usually its around aboriginal people if you mind of your own business you should be fine...i like it here i really never had any problem with anyone.. Like all city there is alway crime some more some less... but i am sure you will like it here....in the summer at 10:00 the sun just goes down.. i love it ...

Just try not to find appartment around the downtow area... St-Boniface is french its not too bad too, St-Vital is a quiet area also there is St-James but which is close to the Airport...

Good luck

Hello Winnipeggers, I am an international student and currently on Work permit looking forward to move to Winnipeg with my Girlfriend for our Job and settlement. I have heard and read a lot of articles online about safety in Winnipeg. Specifically, Downtown and North End area. Can anyone please advice which areas of Winnipeg will be safe. I have a Friend Living in St. James currently and had friends who use to live in St. Vital area which seems to be a bit safe then other areas based on my readings. And please share any important tips which I should be well aware of before moving to Winnipeg to keep me and my girlfriend safe. Thank you Very much In advance.

Just avoid the downtown, north end and the area called the "west end". Even in those areas almost all violent crime seems to occur after midnight and often among people who know each other. I can't think of another area of the city with much crime.

Where you should live depends on where in the city you will be working or studying and whether you will by be travelling by car or bus. Bus service isn't that frequent or direct in some of the suburbs.
