This is trolling of the highest order. Compare two different nations and 52 states to a handful of provinces? The population of the country of Canada is less than the state of California. This is just idiocy.

So every American state bordering a Canadian province is more right-wing than the province?

I don’t think the OP was meaning to troll. However what he/she is looking for cannot be found. I am not sure what studies or stats could be used to support any conclusions comparing the political leanings of US states and Canadian provinces. There are a lot of issues, a lot of different standards for what is and is not conservative or liberal and those standards vary by geographic location. It’s easy to say Alberta is conservative or that Massachusetts is liberal....however comparing them is difficult. Even comparing the states with each other or the provinces with each other would be tough but when you compare the different governments involved and different standards for what is conservative or liberal in the USA vs Canada your talking about mission impossible IMO. I would not even attempt to guess at this OPs question.

I think that has more to do with the overall level of urbanization present in the respective state, with the more urban areas generally leaning more towards the left (well, left in American terms anyway). Sure, that's an oversimplification of the breakdown at large, but I do believe it holds some weight.

That's just because Montana happens to be very rural, while Alberta is far more urbanized.

A better comparison would be Alberta vs. Colorado.
