I might add that once he becomes a Permanent Resident of Canada, you have to be very cautious about crossing the border with him because Canada may refuse to allow you to cross together under "dual intent". The USA is notorious for this and it caused lots of problems for me and my wife. Never tell the border agent he is your boyfriend, fiancee or anything like that. The less said the better.
