I didn't think Canadians were this chauvinist when it comes to protecting their language and speech but I guess some folks really like their identity. Does this really contribute to national or regional identity however?

I think that's funny. And yes, it is a silly kind of national chauvinism.

Is this what could be called a First World problem, when people complain about an electronic robot voice having the wrong kind of accent?

I'm left wondering why in a multi-cultural city like Toronto, a complaint about a perceived Americanization of public transit announcements would have ever been given resource time to consider?
