..... Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam McLeod, 19, were found dead in dense brush near the community of Gillam, Manitoba RCMP announced at a news conference on Wednesday.
The bodies were found around 10 a.m. Wednesday, said RCMP Asst. Commissioner Jane MacLatchy. An autopsy has been scheduled to take place in Winnipeg to confirm the identities and cause of death, though police believe the bodies are those of Schmegelsky and McLeod.
..... items linked to the suspects — including an abandoned aluminum boat — were found on the shoreline of the Nelson River on Friday. That discovery allowed police to narrow down their search area; on Wednesday morning, police located the bodies of the two men about a kilometre from where the items were found, and about eight kilometres from where the suspects’ last known vehicle was found on fire.....
I was talking to my mom about this in terms of closure for the families. On the one hand, they won't have to go through a trial and the emotional roller coaster of reliving things. On the other however, the suspects will have taken a lot of answers with them to their grave.
In any event, it was a tragedy and all around waste of life for 4 young people and 1 accomplished man who was getting ready to enjoy the sunset of his life.
I'm happy for the residents of Gillam and surrounding areas. Hopefully they can start to rest easier now. I can only imagine how such a small and peaceful community would feel with all this going on.
55877332]The fact that their bodies were together suggests they committed suicide, IMO.
Or that at least one of them did (the second one to die), of discouragement after his buddy passed (of starvation/in an accident/whatnot)
(If this was winter then this would be different, they could very well have both died of "exposure" in the same spot without a suicide being needed)[/quote]
It's not just winter exposure but the bugs would drive you to suicide before starvation would get you, imo.
I just find the whole bizarre thing unspeakably sad.
