Sad thing is that I don't know for sure. Canada's inter-provincial liquor laws make wine distribution within Canada limited. This is about to change.

Quebec wines are not really known within Canada...at least outside of Quebec for making great wines. That title goes to BC and Ontario.

I have never seen a Quebecois wine in a store here in BC. I have never had a Quebecois wine either.

Some Ontario wines do make it to BC, but I believe they are under represented.

My guess is that, yes there must be some " good " wines from Quebec. They so far don't match the quality of BC...and Ontario....but mostly BC if you go by the press about Canadian wines. Quebecois wines are hardly mentioned...unlike some of their great cheeses.

This article sounds out some of the issues.

The Quebec wine industry is still only in its infancy. I drink lots of wine (several days a week) and almost never drink Quebec wine. It's really a very occasional one-off as in "let's try this one" but that only happens once or twice a year. Most of my friends are the same.

So far the stuff that's achieved even a bit of popularity is generally niche products that aren't necessarily wines the average person will have with a meal. (Very sweet dessert wines for example.)

Though I will say I have been pleasantly surprised on occasion. (I've been on wine tours in the Eastern Townships.)

At the moment, Quebec wines are very far behind Ontario and BC.

I have tasted some good Quebec white wines. Red wines, not so much, unless you like grape juice a lot. Although that's one of the very few good things about climate change, the climate in southern Quebec is still not warm enough to generate good reds. Or maybe winemakers haven't found the right varieties yet and are still planting merlot or cabernet sauvignon, which won't yield good wine here. There may be a few good pinot noirs that I don't know of.

I doubt Quebec wines can ever be at the level of Niagara or Okanagan wines although of course good specialty ice wines have been produced.

You cam make wine out of things besides grapes.

Would it also be helpful to contact a Quebec winery in advance to see if they give tours in English?
