I absolutely love Michel & Lynda Thibodeau, they are the new heroes of our times and I admire them already more than our flop politicians
Michel & Lynda are COURAGEOUS while Air Canada is OUTRAGEOUS !
It's a shame that Air Canada is even allowed to fly to Québec, they should have been banned form entering Québécois airspace already years ago for violating Bill 101.

I just logged in to show my fierce & unstoppable support for this gorgeous couple and I'm totally fallen in love with the idea of suing all those organizations that neglect French and I'll join their hobby.

Also a big thank you to the judge who punished horrifying Air Canada 'cause they deserve to be punished after decades of having the audacity to disobey bilingualism

I am all for cultural preservation of the French Language in French speaking parts of Quebec but not by way of frivolous lawsuits. The couple could have simply complained to Air Canada to modify their language provisions but they took it one step too far. It was an arrogant and divisive move on their part. Someone from Puerto Rico cannot sue an American airline because there are no signs in Spanish on an airplane. Someone from Hong Kong cannot demand a Mainland Chinese company print in traditional characters instead of or in addition to simplified characters or demand that there are Cantonese speakers on each flight to and from the Mainland. Corporations are more sensitive to customers needs than the past and many will provide signage in a foreign language or a bilingual flight attendant as a courtesy. Perhaps this was what Air Canada ought to have done but a lawsuit like this could actually discourage them from doing anymore than what they are doing and backfire.

You are one of my favorite posters.

In fact, one of the only ones that stand for something.

This is largely due to your usual wit, banter, and unwavering steadfastness in your beliefs.

In the last post you failed deliver neither wit nor banter. Steadfastness was nowhere to be found.

So the result is this:

There were no threats in the aforementioned post.

Characteristically, you may be exhibiting parcels of the renowned Canadian "inferiority complex".

A bit like a small man jumping to defence all too early.

My official statement is that no feelings were intended to be hurt.
That is the coolest attachment i have ever seen. Downloaded and ready for use! Was one sent to the Thibodeaus as well?

TOkidd, I am glad to see someone has a sense of humor! Can you help your compatriots!? Be sure to spread the hurt feelings report, it's going to come in handy these days.

To be fair, I am pretty sure that couple is from NB and one of their complaints was about signs at the Fredericton airport.

That said, from a legal standpoint these are clearly not vexatious litigants, as the court actually ruled in their favour. As armchair judges and legislators we are obviously allowed to discuss this, but it wouldn’t hurt to actually try to understand what sort of legislation led to this award.

As one of "those" anglos, it's things like this that annoy the crap out of me.
They made the correct ruling and Lynda & Michel Thibodeau did a fantastic job!

.
I may be mistaken but I am pretty sure they live in Ottawa but are originally from the North Shore region of Quebec. Though yes Thibodeau is an Acadien name.

They did complain to the flight attendant, and to Air Canada. In the first instance they were escorted off the plane by police upon arrival. In the second case they were repeatedly told to go to hell and given the runaround by Air Canada.

Pretty sure there is no legal obligation to provide service in Spanish on US flights to and from Puerto Rico, or in Cantonese to or from Hong Kong.

This legal obligation (with respect to French) does exist for Air Canada. It's very clear in the law.
