Apparently I know what it means better than you do. I'm sorry to learn that you have such a low opinion of yourself that you are proud to be known by such a derogatory word and don't recognize that those who call you by that word are showing disrespect and insult towards you. Perhaps it's time for you to acquaint yourself with the 21st century instead of keeping yourself living in the bigotry of the WW2 era.

" .... Wog is a slang word in the idiom of Australian English and British English. It is employed as an ethnic or racial slur, and considered derogatory and offensive.... "

I understand Singh's tactics. Trudeau has had ample opportunity and time to move in the direction of addressing these systemic issues but has chosen to keep the status quo. The man was exposed for his blackface incidents and said on record that he will use it as an opportunity to grow and prove he has changed by his actions. Well, his actions say he is fine with the way things are, so we can assume it's a little more than cluelessness in this case.

Singh is simply using his political ambition and self-interest against him. I am sure Trudeau wants to stay in his position for the foreseeable future, so why not shame him into taking some action. Most of the Canadian public didn't care before so they did not hold him accountable, but now that racial issues are at the forefront of everyone's minds, there will eventually be a time where he has to face up to his failures.

The same thing happened with his racist cousin to the South. Trump wants to get re-elected and sees his poll numbers tanking, so he parades out the Hispanic prosperity act along with mild Police reform. Which is more than Trudeau has done, even though it is not coming from a genuine place.

Trudeau must know that the indigenous and black communities in Canada are statistically the poorest, highest unemployment rate, and also the most targeted for aggressive police encounters. He has access to the same statistics that we do, so can the man really be that clueless? Or is he just like every other white supremacist, just with a milder persona and public image?

Semantics? Seriously?

A word originating, and known world wide, to apply scorn and derision to a particular demographic is going to somehow morph into anything a recipient could interpret as a compliment?

C,mon now.

Oh I understand the political reasons why Singh did that. And I guess we may disagree because I put a greater emphasis on words spoken. From my point of view, a large part of what country leaders do is talk. It’s an integral part of what they do. And on that front, Trump has done a lot to hurt racial relations in the US, a few minor laws notwithstanding. Trudeau has been a lot of talk and not much else, but it’s better than a lot of disruptive talk and not much else.

Trudeau is clueless. He has no idea what actions need to be done. Does that make him yet another white supremacist?? No offense but I think this lack of nuance makes it very difficult to have an intelligent conversation. Given that the words of public figures have very real effects on the actions undertaken by their followers, then no, Trudeau is not a white supremacist. Besides, I doubt self-identified white supremacists support him — that ought to count for something, does it?

I have not voted for Trudeau and I certainly won’t in future elections, given his horrible track record on ethics. But he isn’t a white supremacist, and he isn’t "like" a white supremacist.

I think we agree to a point and I agree that a major role of what a PM or President does is play the unifier, so words do matter. The thing is they also have a role to play in crafting legislation. It is just as integral a part of their job as speaking. A part of their job that actually can change the lives of the citizens that they serve.

Whether he is a white supremacist in the truest sense or not, he has an opportunity to break down the system in place that white supremacists and anyone with privilege want to see upheld. A system that has stacked the deck against people of colour. So words aside, why is he defending or at best ignoring this? The man is clueless we can agree, but his actions show he is quite comfortable with the status quo.

I agree that Trudeau is rather uncomfortable with substance, regardless of its form. I also agree that he in a position to change things.
