Default What kind of jobs can I get in Montreal if I can barely speak any French?

I'm going to be moving to Montreal next year in order to get a graduate diploma in marketing from McGill. I will need a job, however, my French is very poor. Is there any hope for me of getting a job? I hold a bachelor's degree in Geography. I don't need a job within my field; even a decent part time job would be acceptable, I just need something.

Take a look at c3job.com, working.com, the hour and mirror free press. The Gazette which is our main English newspaper. Quebec unemployment site and click on Montreal but most if not all jobs are posted in French. There are many telemarketing firms downtown. Axa, Webhelp, Memberworks are some of the bigger ones. Axa is a small sales center but one of the biggest insurance companies. You won't need French. There are smaller places too. Most not worth working for but there is the odd good one on Craigslist. You could also find jobs that don't deal with the public. You could try English hospitals but you would have an erratic schedule. You could work behind the scenes in a restaurant. Type papers. Try your school's employment center. Work handing out flyers or brochures for clubs. Do the odd medical study at Anapharm. They are online. Just some ideas off the top of my head. Good luck. I forgot Sitel which is a big call center with two locations. One at Laurier metro and one at Vendome metro. They do all sorts of incall
and outcall jobs for big clients like Visa, Fido and Roger's cable.

there are always jobs in all hospitals for autoclavers (sterilizing surgical instruments).

this would take a minimal knowledge of French. on an hourly basis, this is very high
paid work. also, working part-time for a cleaning business is also well-paid and requires little of the native language. good luck.
