Who knows what militant nut jobs drafted that paper. Expel the entire population of Gaza? Give me a break. Reminds me of the “send the gays to Canada” interview that made Kadyrov the American alt-right’s Chechen idol a couple years ago. Yes, we should take in refugees but not as an excuse for forced relocation of all of Gaza.

Netanyahu is a far right wing nut job.

2023 Israeli judicial reform protests

Quote:
From January to October 2023, large-scale protests took place across Israel in response to the government's push for a wide-ranging judicial reform. The proposed package aimed to change the makeup of the Judicial Selection Committee so that control over the appointment of judges was effectively given to the government, prevent the Supreme Court of Israel from ruling on the validity of a Basic Law, defend the preference of the "considered constitutional" Basic Laws passed by the Knesset over the Supreme Court's interpretation of a Basic Law or nullification of a regular law; abolish the use of "unreasonableness" as grounds for review of administrative decisions, reclassify ministry legal advisers from independent authorities to politically selected counsel whose opinions are not binding, and allow ministers to reject the Attorney-General's advice in any matter. In July 2023, the Knesset passed the law to abolish the Supreme Court's ability to review government actions on grounds of reasonableness.
Just one of the several protests:
Quote:
On 8 March, for the occasion of International Women's Day, thousands of women dressed in red formed a human line on a beachfront of Tel Aviv to protest the planned reforms. Demonstrators at prior women's protests also dressed in red capes and white hoods, as characters from Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale. They condemned the government for the "Talibanization" of Israel. Protestors believe that the reform plan is "patriarchal and biased" and that women's legal rights are at stake more than they have been in years.

This is a bit off topic, but one of the wierdest things I am seeing online in regards to the Isreal-Palestine conflict is that the far right and the far left are both against Isreal and hate the fact that the government (here and in the US) are supporting Isreal, albiet for different reasons but still they are united in their hate for Isreal. The comments I am seeing in other places are just insane. LOL

Not true in the U.S. - Washington Post article dated 2018:

Half of evangelicals support Israel because they believe it is important for fulfilling end-times prophecy

Quote:
“The tenet of Christian Zionism is that God’s promise of the Holy Land to the Jews is eternal. It’s not just something in antiquity,” Oldmixon said. “When we talk about the Holy Land, God’s promise of the Holy Land, we’re talking about real estate on both sides of the Jordan River. So the sense of a greater Israel and expansionism is really important to this community.
Also:
Quote:
“What kick-starts the end times into motion is Israel’s political boundaries being reestablished to what God promised the Israelites according to the Bible,” Pastor Nate Pyle told Newsweek in January.
This is not an uncommon view.

The LifeWay poll found that 80 percent of evangelicals believed that the creation of Israel in 1948 was a fulfillment of biblical prophecy that would bring about Christ’s return.
When I have skimmed any of the recent threads about Israel in the POC forum here, I’ve found that American right wingers (MAGA types) are overwhelmingly pro Israel.

Well, that opinion piece makes it nice and simple - people shouldn't mix, western society shouldn't evolve and then all would be right with the world!

yes, mainstream right wingers/ conservatives have always supported Isreal. I am familiar with evangelical support of Isreal. But when you go to the far right, a bit more extreme you will see that is not the case. They are no fan of Isreal.

Only if you willingly misread it.

Reminds me of those idiots talking about Northern Europe when someone says you need a “homogeneous society” to enjoy the social programs those countries have like free university tuition, unionized workforce, long paid holiday time, etc. it’s complete an utter garbage made up by populist, anti-immigrant types who want to smear any country that provides more for their citizens than less than the bare minimum and doesn’t have a pseudo-authoritarian leader.
