Toronto Vs Vancouver
I know there of tons of these threads on loads of different sites, but I'm hoping this one will be slightly different, where as in most Toronto/Vancouver threads people vote and say what the like/don't like about each city I would prefer it if the majority of replies were comparisons, eg. "Vancouver has [this] where as Toronto has [this], this difference leads to a difference in [this]." rather than "I like Vancouver because it has [this] and I don't like Toronto because it has [this]" I'm not really sure if anyone will understand my description of the kind of replys I would prefer but here goes anyway

I think the two cities are of totally different size, not even comparable, just like New York and Seattle. Many differences stem from the size and the population of these places anyway.
Most problems people complain about Toronto, such as traffic, people's attitude, pace of life, are because T.O. is a large city, an economic center and has a business-oriented environment. Many people prefer living in Vancouver because they like smaller city, nicer weather (hence more outdoor activities), not because Vancouver itself is better.
In terms of culture, I think both have a lot to give.
Like I said, which one you would like really depends on what lifestyle you prefer, a choice between Portland, OR, or Manhattan. If Vancouver is really better, there won't be 5 mn people living in Toronto in the first place.

Attempting to compare Vancouver and Toronto is like attempting to compare apples and oranges. I know them both, and they are different worlds.

Never been to Toronto, but I love both Vancouver and Victoria. Great cities. Of the two, I honestly preferred Victoria.

But I believe this is how it works, or how it should work. When you want to decide between Toronto & Vancouver for example, it's you to decide in the end and people can only comment on 'this' and 'that' of both cities. I even prefer to ask two separate groups about the 2 cities separately i.e. "What do you think of Toronto and why?" of one group and "what/why..Vancouver" of another group without telling them what our goal is. This way we will get less biased answersa nd we wont be carried away. Because it's in the end you to do the judgment not others. Or at best, if u've got time and patience, 4 groups: pros of toronto, cons of toronto, pros of van, cons of van.

Even so, many of the pros and cons are simply subjective. For examples, some people will think that Toronto's larger population and hence more traffic congestion is a con, however, many others, always prefer living in larger cities with more people instead of quiet towns with fewer than 1 million people like Vancouver, and are quite used to traffic jams. Diversity is another example. Many may like it while the others don't. We can't assume everyone will like this instead of that, it is just like there are people who strongly prefer condominiums to detached houses even though price is not even an issue for them.
Another crucial thing people may ignore is that when comparing two cities which is "better" or "more right", we have to consider them as places where we have to make a living first, without assuming that a job is already there or one carries tons of cash without having to worry about earning the bread. For many new immigrants, especially those who will need a job really soon, the job market bears far more importance than more luxury stuff, such as weather, ski resorts or trendy restaurants and bars, or even so called "culture".

Though not as bad as Toronto's, Vancouver actually has relatively significant traffic problems as well, as is typical of a metro area with around 2.5 million people.
