By "as non-residents" do you mean obtaining a work visa in those fields?
Work visas require that you find a Canadian employer willing to offer you a job, and then having that employer obtain a Human Resources and Development Canada clearance for hiring a non-resident for that position.
I believe there is some burden on the employer to show that they can not find a Canadian resident capable of filling the position.
In the fields you mention, I suspect that might prove more difficult than if we were dealing with atomic research or some other specialization.

Contrary to popular belief amongst some Canadians, emigrating to Canada is a little more complex than showing up at the border with suitcase in hand. Usually.
There are various ways of emigrating: through employment, family reunification, etc., and the requirements for each avenue are quite different.
Immigration to Canada is controlled by a government branch called Citizenship and Immigration Canada. CIC has an extensive website explaining requirements and procedures. It is available in English or French and can be found at:
Welcome Page | Page d'accueil
It's well worth a look for anyone giving serious or semi-serious consideration to applying to immigarte to Canada.

I could move there if I wanted because I am married to a Canadian.

Thanks for the replies guys. KevK:I just yelled at my wife's parents for conceiving and having her in America. Cornerguy: I should have been more clear. I do mean obtaining work visa's in those fields. I have my RPA, my realtors license and I'm thinking about getting my CPM. ( RPA and CPM are commercial property management designations) The non-profit my wife works for is an international trade association focused on alternative fuel markets. I love the commercial real estate field and plan on staying in it. My major concern is moving to another country and not being able to find work in my field. There is a guy on my janitorial staff who was an accountant in his home country. I don't want to have that happen with our move.

Me too. If I don't get a job pretty soon, we'll have to head north again and live in the parents' in law's basement.

I am thinking about becoming a spring and summer resident of the Maritimes and am trying to find out about medical insurance while I am in Canada! If anyone has any info on this subject it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello cornerguy. I have read many of your threads and are very helpful. That's very kind of you
I have a couple of questions for you hoping you will have a minute to help me since i could not find such info at the cic.cgc.ca
I am applying as skilled worker from Turkey. I do qualify to be accepted for processing and the test i took its over 70 points. I am applying as a cook and this is my situation after i have read for many hours the whole site Welcome Page | Page d'accueil and not finding the answers anywhere on the site:
I am 24 years old and i have over 4 years of experience on cooking.
I have been paid in cash, will this be a problem? What kind of evidence i should have if this might create a problem?
I have finished 16 years of education including college but for the cooking profession i have only a 9 month certificate as a classified cook. Will this certificate be enough for my file to be accepted for further processing?
I have this same job since the beginning of my career and i have all reference letters, personal resume and verification of employment as the site cic.gc.ca requires..., but i wanted to know, sending pictures form the restaurant i work at would it be necessary? or what else do you think it will needed for me to provide?
please advice... have no where else where to find answers and i dont want to make mistakes on my application before i send out to nova scotia.
thank you very much in advnce

Canadian winters don't bother me. If cold weather were an issue, Vancouver,BC and Victoria,BC would be the best options. Personally, I have considered moving to Canada since I was a teenager.

People are people where ever you live. My wife and I left Los Angeles for the exact opposite reasons you went to canada. lol Full of secular fundamentalist neo-libs that hated America and christianity and thought that they were intellectually superior to everyone else. They professed tolerance but only for those with whom they agree. Hollywood was full of egomaniacal narcissists, only looking out for themselves.
Bottom line; there is no such thing as heaven on earth, as you've found out. Hope you find your spot.

Thank you for this post--I get very steamed with the egomaniacs in Hollywood, many are not very educated, pontificating about the right direction to vote in this country.
We were very glad to get out of DC before the last election. Now, even being a moderate conservative isn't easy for peeps living in that crazy place.
As an immigrant from Canada (and a very proud patriot of the good ol' USA), the last thing I want is for this country to become another Canada--for all it's problems, I prefer it's brash opinionated and willingness to stick its neck out there.
It's easy to bash Americans and focus only on the "warmongering" but the truth is it is one of the most generous nations and many of our troops provide safety and sacrifice much for other nations in terms of service, food, and medical care. But these salient facts are disregarded by much of the world's media, including the USA's media.
For me, there is no comparison between the countries. Other than Vancouver, which is cosmopolitan but its face has changed tremendously since I immigrated to the USA, and the lush natural wonders, if you are into all that stuff good times--I'm not, the USA wins. For it has all the benefits of Vancouver in Seattle, and amazing natural wonders throughout the nation.
