Nice page - maybe I can find some help here.

General background
My Wife have been offered a temporary job as a scientist (neuroscience) at University of Victoria starting summer of 2009.
So our little family of four (boy 4yo and daughter 2yo) are planning a temporary residence in Victoria for approx. 2 years so far.

This is a great job oppotunity for her, but is not the sole reason for our moving plans. We love to travel and experience life elsewhere - and have been doing several times before.

As a city boy with nature freak tendencies, - I could not think of any better place than Victoria. It seems to me like just the right size of a city on the right kind of an Island, in the right kind of a country.

Specific questions

Visum rules?
37 yo - I plan for a spousal work permit. Does anybody have any experience on applying for such a Visa?

Where to live?
Reistrering our kids to the Universitys Child Care - we plan to live some where near campus. Looks like Saanich or Oak Bay are the right areas - but what are your experience? Which areas in Victoria will you recommend? Were just looking for a rental place - big enough for 4 people + the occasional guest(s).

Job opportunities for me?
The last eight years I have been working as a constructing architect, managing larger scale building projects for our community and Copenhagen Airport, which actually means I've have been either facing my computer screen, talking on the phone or attending some sort of meeting. Originally a carpenter - I would love to work with my hands again. - What are the opportunities if you are looking for a job as a woodsman, carpenter or maybe some other place within the outdoor industry? And how is the general job situation on Vancouver Island/Victoria?

Besides from the above questions - it could be nice to hear some overall advices for Victoria Newcomers.
