Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen living in Toronto and I would like to sponsor my Taiwanese girlfriend to come to Canada. We are planning to get in Canada when she arrives early next year, but I'm wondering if I can start the sponsorship application before that. The main reason I ask is because she would like to study or find a job in Canada as soon as possible but I'm not sure if she will be able to with only the marriage status. Hope someone can help my clarify things out, much appreciated!

Regards,

If your girlfriend enters Canada legally and then the 2 of you marry, you can then start the application process for her Permanent Resident's status. This process will likely take at least 12 months to complete and perhaps longer. Until she has PR status, she will not be able to legally work, attend school, or be eligible for government health insurance.

Being married to a Canadian citizen does not permit another nationality to pursue work or school opportunities.

To find out if it's possible to apply for a student visa or temporary work permit while awaiting the disposition of her PR application, why not call the folks who really know all the answers?

There is a toll-free phone number on the Contact Us page of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada web site. The CIC advisors are generally very knowledgable and helpful. Yuo'll also be able to explain your exact circumstances and receive official answers.

I fi have a problem and if my lawyer has done any mistakes from his side i will sue him for good because i did tell him to find out first about my satus how my ex had sponsored me and then i will sponsor my new husband...and if the immigration sends me any letter saying i did fraud i will take my lawyer to court. Because i did not give him permission to send any sponsorship papers to immigration.

Is that post for real??
Bigamy is a crime in Canada. Therefore, you will be deported, or perhaps jailed and then deported.
I recommend you study the Canadian Immigration website:
