Have you or anyone you've known from the midwest moved their family to canada for business reasons ? (live in)

i am writing a story and in it, a family relocates from the great lakes region of the american midwest to canada for business reason during the mid 1980s....now i want the story to be 100 percent sociologically and historically accurate, i was wondering what specific industries or businesses in the midwest would have relocated their employees to canada or given their employees the opportunity to work in a better position in the same industry up in canada?

has anyone experienced this or know somebody who has...what specific industry/business was involved, what midwestern city did you/they live in and where in canada did you/they move to and how long did you/they stay up north?

Well, the auto industry was picking up again in the mid 80's. A typical move would have been an auto exec moving from a Detroit suburb to Oakville or Oshawa Ontario. Also note, there are plenty of Americans who live in Windsor Ontario and Niagara Falls, ON.
