Default Weather in London Ontario

Hi,

What is the weather like all year round in London Ontario? How harsh are the winters? Are the summers pleasant? How is it as a place to stay? Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Its like Detroit but with much more snow in the winter. London is smack dab in the Lake Huron snowbelt. Temps are about the same as Detroit, with perhaps a touch less humidity since London is inland.

I lived in London for about 4 years. The winters there are quite harsh because of lake effect snow from Lake Huron. This is especially evident in November and December (toward mid-winter the lake cools down thus slowing down the snowfall). London is the snowiest major city in southern Ontario for this reason, however the city is well-equipped to handle heavy snowfalls. For example, in December 2006, London received 20 inches of snow in a 24-hour period and that was the only day in the past 30 years when the city was basically shut down due to snow.

Something that people don't think about is that the lake also creates lake effect clouds. This leaves London really cloudy and drab for much of the late Fall and early Winter while nearby cities like Windsor and Toronto see more sunshine.

Summers are nice although lake breezes converging from Lake Huron and Lake Erie result in late afternoon thunderstorms. London has more days with thunderstorms then any city in Canada because of this.
