Canadian Healthcare
I posted a thread in the U.S. thread under Politics and Universal Healthcare and I got this dude's statement below. I live in the U.S. is the guy below correct or not? I am in favor of Universal, but I welcome other views. The guy goes by Canamerica or some such.
DUDE'S STATEMENT.
I have lived under Socialized healthcare! Until you have experienced it, you do NOT know how it will be. It is just horrible. In Canada, waiting room times are at about 6 hours.
Socialized healthcare is absolutely horrible, and our great system of healthcare in the US is one of the reasons why doctors come to the US from around the world.
Did you know in Canada there is a MASSIVE nurse shortage? You know why? 1) The government is so overburdened by health costs that it can not afford to pay nurses well. 2) Nurses go to the US, where they can be part of the best healthcare system in the world.
The same goes for doctors. Canada is unable to recruit top specialists, while the US is, because of our private health system.
These people who post about socialized healthcare, and have never even experienced it are starting to really get on my nerves. Stop listening to third and fourth party sources, and actually ask Canadians how they like their healthcare. Odds are, if they aren't on welfare, they hate it!

One time I have to wait for 3 hours in the walk-in clinnic on sat/sun. but it's understandable it's the weekend and your family doctor is not open, most of the time i waited 15-30 mins before my doctor can see me
Socialized healthcare is absolutely horrible, and our great system of healthcare in the US is one of the reasons why doctors come to the US from around the world. the biggest reason why CND Doctors move to the US is because they get/want more $$$$$$$

My SIL is a nurse and all i hear is how stupid some intern doctor are

Then why read it. If you don't want to talk about it, go to another thread.

Only 6 hours huh? Most of the hospitals I have been to (at least in Georgia) might see 6 hour waits on a good day (I have experienced several waits of over 10 hours).

I agree waiting is long and there are nurse and doctor shortages, but that is because of the money. Because our health care is mostly paid for by the Government (tax payer's) there is not much to pay high salaries to doctors and nurses, so they go to the US, once out of the waiting room and into see a doctor all seems fine, at least from my experience. But I have to say that if some people would stop going to the hospital for minor things like the sniffles and wait till morning to see your own doctor then it may free up the emergency room for actual emergencies.
It is nice to know that when you do go to the doctors you do not need to pay for the visit or any blood work and x-rays etc.... One less thing to not have to stress over.

Well I guess the win win situation would be for the U.S. to have universal health care. Cananda would lose less greedy doctors and there taxes would be less, so maybe we should get the Canadians to lobby for UHC.

Personally I like the way it is now, minus the shortages. Call me crazy but it works for me.

It works for most Canadians. Most people don't have any real gripe with the system as it is now.
