Rankin Inlet, Nunavut (AHN) - Canada's Governor General Michaelle Jean admitted Thursday she was aware her publicity stunt of eating raw seal heart meat to support the seal trade was bound to be criticized and praised.

Jean explained to the Canadian Press, "I think a person in my position knows exactly what's in the air, and I'm aware of the context. I'm aware that now if you eat seal or wear something made of seal skin... it says that you recognize this activity."

I think it was a good move. Showing solidarity with the Native community and their way life.
She has a lot of character. The best G-G ever IMO.

While I support the idea of showing solidarity with the native community and with her support of the native (non-commercial) ring seal hunt, I have a feeling that the TV cameras were there to make a political point that Canada's commercial harp seal hunt products should not be banned in Europe. She entered into fairly political waters considering the timing of her visit to Rankin Inlet.
