Default Winter weather: Mild and overcast or cold and sunny?

Unfortunately those seem to be the only options for us Canadians. We can have mild weather (ie Coastal BC) or blue skies (Prairies), but not both.

Personally, coming from a place that has neither... overcast, moderately cold winters (Newfoundland) I'm not sure which I would prefer.

Well where I am we have both. Nova Scotia. In fact when I moved here from Ontario, I was like "Is this the winters here?" I can handle that. I found Ontario winters, at least where I was from worse. I can manage better here. Mind you I am in the Valley and even our summers are better than most of NS.

I like it being overcast as long as it doesn't rain.
Actually I prefer cloudy days vs sunny days especially in the summer. I always walk in the shade when it is really sunny. I don't understand why so many people like to sit in the direct sunshine when it is over 25C.

But if it rains a lot, I'd choose cold and sunny.

Our mildest winters in Canada are not mild enough.
My bare fingers can sting from the cold at 12 C,
and the mildest parts of Canada are 6 C for the average January high.

That said, for my condition "milder" would be the lesser of two evils.

*No place in Canada is usually like this mid-winter,
but I would pick a place with highs from -3 C to 0 C
under clear skies and sun from 8 am to 4:30 pm and calm winds
and lows never colder than -9 C...

than typical Vancouver winter weather.

*Toronto is still far too windy and cloudy most of the winter for my tastes.

Sunny and cold with one or two overcast and milder days per week is great. Because of the contrast between the temperatures of day and night, you end up believing that -25 is warm!

I don't like either option. I already have "mild" and overcast. I don't like snow or really cold temperatures so I don't care if the sun is shining and it's 2 degrees or less, that is still cold. I need a mild and sunny winter climate.

I can live with both "Mild and overcast" and "cold and sunny" (Calgary & Kananaski Country).
I certainly hope never to experience the ice storms like those in Quebec and the Maritimes some years ago.
