What about Kingston Ontario? It is close to the 1000 Islands region of Ontario/Northern NY. It's a nice city that is in between Ottawa and Toronto. A lot of American guys go to Kingston to hang out. I should know, as many of them were soldiers from Ft. Drum, where I was stationed for a few years.

What about St. Catharines too?

LOL. I live in the place most people would absolutely never want to live - Manitoba (provincial bird the mosquito, 6 months of winter and 6 months of poor sledding).

That last bit is not really true. We have very long, terrible winters, but summers are usually beautiful. Winter and summer we have many sunny days.

I don't live in Winnipeg however, but there is an airport and there are many cultural activities, and strong support for the arts. Regina, Saskatchewan is actually a very cute city, and also has strong support for the arts. It's just that winter thing again...As far as Calgary is concerned, people I know complain there's no culture. I don't know Calgary well myself so I can't say.

I've just visited Nelson and loved every minute of it. Had just the right amount of a funky feel to it.

I want to live in a large city with abundant job opportunities and mile winter. Seems there is no such place in Canada

Vancouver would be your best choice.

No, Vancouver doesn't have abundant jobs and the city may be big but it has a smaller population than Mississauga.

If you look at Metro Van it's around 2.2 Million, where would be your next choice?

I'm talking about the city not the metro, THE CITY.

Time to trot out one of my links!

I'm in Montreal and we are considering a move to Northern Ontario when it's time to break free from the clutches of Quebec. Dryer, cleaner air.

Montreal's winters are harsh and the air is so damp!

The humidity during the summer can be unbearable, and the air where we live literally reeks sometimes. It's horrible!

Well, you'll find that the winters in northern Ontario are harsh as well, though the cold is drier than in southern Quebec. -45 is still very cold (much colder than Montreal in fact) regardless of how much humidity there is in the air.

Depending on where you choose to live in northern Ontario, there can be quite a bit of pollution as well, mostly from mining activities and paper mills.

Not trying to discourage you from going - I know it quite well and it can be a beautiful place for a quiet, outdoorsy lifestyle.
