Could someone please tell me (a retired senior U.S. Citizen-- resident of Montana) what I need to do to take a couple of sporting shotguns and my bird dog into B.C. and then continue my trip on up into the Yukon and into AK? I'll be driving my SUV and will also have some shotgun ammo with me. I know about not being able to take any hand guns into Canada, but that is the extent of my knowledge related to taking "guns" into Canada.

Info please on: Documentation; permits; ownership proof; dog papers; passport requirements; cost(s) and anything else I should know about.

Thanks in advance for helping me out.....it's been several years since I made a trip like this. Pushing 80.....I figure, "I better get-er-done" now!!

For information on transiting Canadian territory with a firearm: Firearm Users Visiting Canada

For information on transiting Canadian territory with ammunition: Explosives (http://www.nrcan.gc.ca/mms-smm/expl-expl/publ-publ/ima-ima-eng.htm#a - broken link)

Bringing your dog: Canadian Food Inspection Agency - Health of Animals - Importation of Pet Dogs

You will require a valid US passport to enter the US from Canada.

Be sure to review the approved Canadian firearms storage requirements; hanging the Remington in the back window of the pickup probably isn't going to cover it.

Enjoy your trip and your hunt.
