Hi all

We are in the process of moving to Canada and our destination will probably be Ottawa (not for sure as yet). In any event, I have a 20 months old baby who recently got his arm burned. His arm is healing well but there is a concern about his palm and being able to have full function of his arm. We have just started occupational therapy but we are concerned about the continuation of his treatment once we move to Canada.

Do you think we will have a problem being able to get the treatment he needs once we move? What would we need to do to ensure that he gets what he needs to fully recover?

We are presently in the US but we do not have an option to stay any longer than August.

Thanks!

yes, just go to a walk in clinic and they will likely have a list of doctors accepting new patients or they will point you in the right direction.

or not.

Ontario's health insurance plan requires that you be a resident of the province for a period of 90 days before you are eligible for coverage. This applies even if you are a Canadian citizen returning to the country.

You may want to arrange a source of private insurance for that time period.

As far as care for your child goes, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is an excellent facility which will either be able to provide the care you need, or make arrangements for it.

Thanks! Good information! We have started looking at private insurance until the public one kicks in.

Thanks again!

Do you mean his injury or the private insurance? By the time we leave we will have private insurance to cover us for the 90 days. If its the injury, Im told that it takes 1-2 years for burn wounds to heal and we dont have an option to be here that long due to our immigration status
