Default Windsor, Ontario

Hello,

My partner and I are big fans of Canada and often dream of moving there. We found Windsor to be close enough to where we could still make weekend trips to our home town.

What's this area like? is it safe? What is area inparticular would you recommend for this city? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is perfectly safe as long as you stay on the Canada side of the Ambassador Bridge after dark. There is a place there called The Golden Griddle which lots of locals hang out at and they can tell you everything about living there.

cool... we would like more of a city feel i think...an up and coming area. I've heard it's a little run down close to the university. So would north of there be good?

"Canada side of the ambassador bridge" you just mean not detroit right?

Windsor is a nice city, its only downfall is how close it is to Detroit. Detroit is not a nice place and should be avoided at all cost. Detroit is a little piece of the third world in the heart of North America.

It's funny you say that because i've never seen people defend detroit like they do in windsor. They actually look up to detroit as a big brother and often like to consider themselves a subburb.

I live in Michigan about 100 miles northwest of Detroit. We are kinda embarassed of Detroit and the way things are there. Im suprised people in Windsor see Detroit like that, I would think they would see what we see in it. I would think it should be Detroit looking up to Windsor not the other way around. Windsor is a nice city, and Detroit could learn alot from them.

I don't know for some reason most people i've met from windsor will go out of there way to say detroit isn't that bad. It's usually they'll say the downtown is actually not so bad it's just "certain neighborhoods" that are the problem.

Most people in windsor listen to detroit radio stations they support the detroit teams they go there for concerts and sporting event, they have the shared history of the auto industry. There's a joke that the best view of detroit can only be seen in windwor due to it being right across the river from it.

Like i said they really see themselves as sort of a suburb and i guess they feel protective of detroit.

I'm not surprised. Living in Metro Detroit, it's quite common to see Ontario plates and find Canadian quarters in your wallet. I've seen them repeatedly up in Clinton Township checking out the brand new houses and shopping at the malls. Windsor might as well be a suburb if it weren't for the country division.
